Old Bedford Bridge
The illustration of the town bridge is an engraving by George Noble (1783) which shows the bridge as it would have appeared before both buildings were removed in 1765. The bridge was finally demolished in 1811.

WELCOME to Bedford Archaeological & Local History Society. The Society is a group of local people from a wide variety of backgrounds who share a common interest in exploring the history and archaeology of Bedford and its neighbourhood.

We meet in an informal atmosphere at Putnoe Heights Church Centre, every month from September to April, for talks by expert speakers on a variety of topics, allowing time for coffee and biscuits, a chat and questions.

During the summer months we have an active programme of visits to places of historic or archaeological interest. We also publish two Newsletters a year.
